Pilling Printers Ltd is one of the longest established printing companies still trading in
Hull. With a history spanning almost fifty years it has consistently provided quality
products and service to a wide customer base both locally in Hull and the East Riding and
further afield in the UK. The company's roots lie with the three Sleight brothers, George, Leslie and Raymond who in the early 1950's decided to sell out their transport business when haulage was nationalised in the aftermath of the Second World War. With the money that they had raised from the sale they bought the long established business of H Pilling & Co so we have Pilling Printers rather than Sleight Printers! Only Raymond had any experience of printing and he handled the administration and sales for the business in the early days. George and Leslie turned their hands to putting ink on paper and taught themselves to become letterpress printers. The company grew steadily and became a well known and trusted supplier to the Hull area. In the late 1970's Ray, George's eldest son came into the business bringing extensive experience in print management gained in the expanding self adhesive label market. He developed the Company from a traditional letterpress operation into a modern litho outfit over the next 5 years, investing heavily in the latest technologies. Like most businesses the early 90's were a trying time and a period of consolidation and process improvement resulted. The mid 90's have seen a third generation of the Sleight family, Ray's sons Christopher and David become involved in the business further updating equipment and machinery to prepare Pilling Printers for the next millenium.
